Where is Mount Houston?

I know I’m not the only one who chuckles every time he drives past the Mt. Houston exit on highway 59. There are no mountains! It’s flat out there. There’s not so much as a heap of dirt. (Use the Google StreetView above to check out the panorama.) I’ve wondered if it’s a joke and that the overpass is the mountain–I’ve heard people jokingly refer to the Edloe St. overpass near Greenway Plaza as Mt. Edloe–but this seems much more than a joke. There are actual road signs for Mt. Houston.

I searched the internet and found one guy who claims that he discovered Mt. Houston, but it’s located on the West side of town. I’m skeptical. Also, apparently there’s a small town called Mt. Houston, but the reference doesn’t tell me anything about where the name came from.

So can anybody tell me what’s the story with Mt. Houston?
